Pilates Training Online with a Personal Instructor
How Live Online Pilates Training Works
Your Thera-Pilates training online session will either use Zoom, FaceTime, or Skype for us to see each other. The video conference app used will depend on which one works best at your location.
You basically only need a yoga mat, a pillow, and some space on the floor. The Pilates mat exercises are the original exercises created by Joseph Pilates, no equipment is needed to get a challenging workout. Other optional tools might include light hand weights and resistance bands or tubes.
Before we schedule your first private Pilates online lesson, we’ll review your medical history. We’ll discuss medical conditions that are pertinent to our work (bulging discs, car accidents, surgeries, etc.), and your current physical issues. We’ll talk about your goals, what you’d like to achieve through this process, and map out a plan to remove the impediments to those goals. After that, we hit the floor and get down to work! After all, what could be better than lying down while you’re exercising?
Why my Pilates Training Online is Better Than Watching a Video
Videos are great for people who are already good at Pilates and/or have no physical issues. If that’s not you, then they can be slightly dangerous. Here’s what my private Pilates lessons provide that a video cannot:

We will dive deep into the fundamentals of this method of exercise. I can’t begin to stress how important that is.

You'll get immediate feedback on your form, and get verbal cueing to correct it. Proper form is imperative to avoid injuries.

I can modify any exercise to match your current fitness level and physical issues. I will suggest adjustments to ensure your safety and achieve the maximal benefit from each exercise.

Client education. I will teach you how to properly perform your normal daily activities and/or in your work environment. You will learn how to utilize these core stabilization techniques in all areas of your life, which is where it matters most.

You will learn how to perform self-stretching properly.

We'll discuss the best uses of hot and cold therapies on current complaints. I can also walk you or your significant other through various massage techniques and soft tissue mobilization if that would be helpful.

We’ll develop a Home Exercise Program for you, so you won’t need to keep seeing me.
Private Pilates Lessons Online for People with Unique Challenges and Needs
Please keep in mind that Pilates is more about what’s not moving than what is. Merely mimicking movements in a video, where you’re moving your arms and legs around, is not good Pilates if you’re not stable. If your trunk and hips are flopping around like a freshly-caught fish in a row boat, then you are missing the point. For instance, my granddaughter lies in her crib and moves her arms and legs around, but she’s not doing Pilates. And if you are not stabilizing your trunk, hips and pelvis while your arms and legs move, neither are you.
